If you are a Republican who supports President Donald Trump, then House Speaker Nancy Pelosi believes that you are a “domestic enemy of the state” – her words.
The 80-year-old Democrat spoke with MSNBC following Trump’s recent speech at the Republican National Convention (RNC), suggesting that the president and his fellow Republicans in Congress are basically domestic terrorists.
“We take an oath to protect and defend the Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic,” Pelosi stated. “And sadly, the domestic enemies to our voting system and honoring our Constitution are right at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue with their allies in the Congress of the United States.”
Pelosi went on to urge other Democrats to “get out there and mobilize, organize, and not let the president deter anybody from voting. And again, support the postal system which is election central.”
According to Pelosi, Trump and the Republicans are doing “everything they can” to “suppress the vote.” This is presumably in reference to the debunked conspiracy theory that Trump is removing United States Postal Service mailboxes to stop people from mailing in ballots.
“With your action, scare people, intimidate by saying law enforcement will be there, diminish the role of the postal system in all of this,” Pelosi further fear-mongered. “It’s really actually shameful. Enemies of the state.”
Because the postal service conspiracy theory continues to be spread by the mainstream media – which means many Democrats automatically believe it – Pelosi and the Democrats are using this to their advantage to push for legislation that would block the USPS from making any operational or other changes.
Pelosi called back lawmakers early from their August recess to vote on a bill introduced by Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney of New York that “prohibits the Postal Service from implementing any changes to operations or level of service it had in place on January 1, 2020.”
Postmaster General Louis DeJoy has reportedly been changing some things to help improve efficiency and cut costs – things that have nothing to do with voting, by the way. But this is not what the Democrats are now claiming.
The Postal Service has further indicated that it may have trouble in some states delivering mail-in ballots in an appropriate amount of time for them to be counted. This, according to Pelosi, is part of Trump’s “campaign to sabotage the election by manipulating the Postal Service to disenfranchise voters.”
Because DeJoy is a contributor to Trump’s campaign, that automatically makes him bad in the eyes of Democrats, which are suggesting that his decisions serve to “degrade postal service” and “delay the mail.”
Further, Pelosi believes that any changes being made to the Postal Service at the current time “threaten to deny the eligibility of eligible Americans to cast their votes through the mail in the upcoming elections in a timely fashion.”
While some news outlets have been reporting that USPS mailboxes are being removed in some areas, along with high-speed sorting machines, this again is not related to the election. These are changes being made based on usage trends and other factors.
“Sorry Nancy. I’m not a big fan of the red team. But every attack I’ve received that is tinged with politics coupled with this almost 4 year coup has come entirely from you and your team,” wrote one Zero Hedge commenter.
“Pelosi is comedy gold,” wrote another. “I don’t understand how she can make this stuff up and keep a straight face. She deserves her own late night comedy show! She would make Baghdad Bob blush.”
