Left-wing agitators used the horrific death of George Floyd in May 2020 to riot in cities and towns across the country for months thereafter, causing billions in property damage and a number of deaths, not to mention hundreds of serious injuries to police officers.
But when a handful of Americans enraged that political operatives in their own country outright stole President Donald Trump’s reelection took out their anger and did some minor damage to the U.S. Capitol Building, the same government that undermined our electoral processes vowed revenge.
And it finally came.
On Thursday, a federal judge handed down an 18-year prison sentence to Stewart Rhodes, the founder of the patriot organization called the Oath Keepers. The judge also accepted the government’s recommendation to apply a terrorism enhancement for Rhodes’ leadership in a seditious conspiracy aimed at obstructing the certification of President Joe Biden’s election victory. Federal prosecutors argued that the ‘conspiracy’ ultimately resulted in the ‘violent attack’ on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, ABC News reported.
Rhodes has now received the longest sentence connected to the riot, and the kicker is he wasn’t even in D.C. that day.
D.C. District Judge Amit Mehta, an Obama appointee, finally accepted the government’s recommendation to apply a terrorism enhancement in Stewart Rhodes’ sentencing, marking the first instance in such a case where this enhancement has been accepted. Mehta concurred with prosecutors, acknowledging that Rhodes played a role in inspiring violence among his followers with the intent to disrupt the certification process. The judge also determined that Rhodes’ actions met the legal definition of terrorism, as they were aimed at influencing the actions of the government, ABC News reported.
As if the riots throughout 2020 committed by BLM and Antifa weren’t aimed at forcing local governments to make political changes.
Mehta highlighted two key factors during the sentencing. Firstly, he referred to the stockpile of weapons that the Oath Keepers had gathered near Washington, D.C., though there were never any intentions of using them. Additionally, the judge pointed out Rhodes’ instructions to Oath Keepers members to delete potentially incriminating messages following the assault on the Capitol, though Rhodes and his companions were obviously worried about what just happened to them — government retribution.
“You, sir, present an ongoing threat and peril to this country,” Mehta told Rhodes just before handing down his sentence.
ABC News noted further:
Justice Department prosecutors sought 25 years for Rhodes, their highest recommendation yet for a defendant charged in connection with Jan. 6.
In their sentencing recommendation to Mehta, they argued repeatedly that harsh sentences for all the Oath Keepers charged in the conspiracy were necessary in order to deter future potential attacks against democracy.
In the aftermath of the 2020 election steal, Republican-led states have implemented new voting laws and regulations. Some states have added restrictions to mail-in voting, requiring identification or witness signatures, while others have expanded early voting or made voting by mail easier.
Following the election, a review by The Associated Press found less than 475 potential cases of voter fraud in the six key states that were disputed by Trump, representing just 0.15 percent of Biden’s victory margin. The majority of cases of voter fraud were found to be individuals casting additional ballots rather than any coordinated attempt to rig the election.
But a real investigation conducted by documentary filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza featuring highly experienced election analysts who use both data and video proved beyond any reasonable doubt that Democrats conspired to pull off the greatest election theft in the history of our country.
And worse, unless more Republican legislatures in key battleground states do more to secure elections moving forward, this will happen again and again until our elections become completely meaningless.
