Actors who were terminated for their refusal to get injected with the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine have spoken out against being blacklisted by the entertainment industry.
Great Game India recounted the stories of several such actors, including stunt performer and actor Dorian Kingi. He first appeared on screen in the 1994 film “Double Dragon,” where his father Henry appeared as an antagonist. The younger Kingi followed his father’s footsteps years later, appearing on “Stranger Things” and “The Book of Boba Fett.”
However, job opportunities for him trickled in the last three years due to his religious exemption from the COVID-19 vaccine. He lamented how some of his colleagues had died of the injection, if not suffering serious injuries. The younger Kingi also lamented the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) for not extending protections to actors making private medical decisions.
“With the union’s overall stance on inclusion, diversity and anti-discrimination, it’s just disheartening that there’s been no middle ground regarding this issue,” he said. The younger Kingi also lamented that he and others have continued to lose their jobs due to an unofficial “blacklist” of unvaccinated actors. The vaccinated ones aren’t exactly lucky.
Actress Bekka Prewitt suffered vaccine injuries 12 hours after getting injected in May 2021 – with the damage to her body still present two years on. “For months, I would have rotating pain throughout my body,” she recounted. While the discomfort ultimately subsided, Prewitt would suffer the lasting effects of the lethal COVID-19 vaccine.
Aside from irregular menstrual cycles, a multi-pronged cyst larger than a golf ball was detected in her body during a pelvic ultrasound. Prewitt was also diagnosed with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, an autoimmune condition, which led to her rheumatologist giving her a medical exemption. However, this only came about after the first doctor she consulted with dismissed the idea that the vaccine was the cause.
Studios rejected her despite this exemption, leading to her termination on a TV program in October 2022. Since then, Prewitt has dabbled in motion capture and voice acting for video games. She has also used social media to raise awareness of her situation.
“It’s very established now that the COVID-19 vaccination and boosters do not prevent the spread of COVID-19. You can get or give COVID regardless of your vaccination status, so it’s neither logical nor scientific,” she said. “But it doesn’t matter to the entertainment industry because there’s now this belief system that’s been indoctrinated into our culture that claims if you aren’t vaccinated, you are deadly to yourself and others.”
Because of this, 100 SAG-AFTRA members – including Kingi and Prewitt – sued the union in December with the help of the group Protecting the Educational Rights of Kids (PERK). The plaintiffs accused the union, helmed by Fran Drescher of “The Nanny” fame, of negligence, violation of contract and breach of fiduciary duty of fair representation.
Actor Tatum Shank, another plaintiff in the suit, was sacked from a TV show he was part of in October 2021 for refusing COVID-19 vaccination. Despite this termination, he is still subjected to discrimination due to his vaccine history.
“I just got audition notes the other day asking for my vaccine status, so it’s still going on out there. And if they start trying to push another pandemic, they’ll just bring all of this back,” Shank said. “That’s why this lawsuit is so important because if we win and show people what they did, it can keep it from happening again.”
In response to a request for comment, SAG-AFTRA meanwhile remarked that the plaintiffs’ claims “are without merit.” It also stressed that it will seek the suit’s dismissal, noting that SAG-AFTRA “has already defended and obtained dismissal of other charges brought against it before the National Labor Relations Board.”
